I had the honour of sharing the rostrum with Dr. Victoria Okojie a member of IFLA Governing Board and Dr. Okiy Rose as we organised an IFLA IAP workshop at the ongoing conference of Nigerian Library Association. UN Information Centre, Nigeria also made a presentation at the workshop. After an hour and 20minutes of presentations, participants were divided into ten groups to drive home what was taught through different activities. Three groups did role acting about advocacy to different groups of decision makers in the society. Three other groups gathered stories of how Nigerian libraries have been driving the SDGs while four groups worked on synchronising the translations of the SDGs into the three main Nigerian languages.
Preaching the gospel of how Libraries drive development as encapsulated in the UN 2030 Agenda and AU 2063 Agenda is exciting. The windows of opportunities for libraries created by these developmental frameworks are awesome!
This is the best time to be a librarian! Let's own the #SDGs and showcase the significant values that Libraries add to the 21st century societies! And like Buhle Thata said - one library changing the lives of people in one Community at a time will lead to overwhelming Development all over Africa!
